I am always on the lookout for a new tool that will help feed my addiction and when I saw GeoVox, I was extremely intrigued. What do I like about it?The world builder gives you an amazing view of what you are designing. The rendereing engine built in is amazing.The settings when creating a new world can produce an almost infinite number of distinct worlds as a starting point with minimal effort.The voxel engine is fantastic. It allows for creating some truly beautiful scenery quickly really cutting down level design time.The program allows you to change textures so you can quickly see what the world would look like with different styles.What don't I like about it?Even with a pretty powerful sustem, the program can get bogged down. I have a Core i7 7820HK with a GTX 1070 and 16Gbs of ram and even when I'm not running at max settings, the program will stutter a little. For someone with a less powerful system this will slow you down.The controls are not the most intuitive setup. This just requires time playing with the program to get accustomed to but I think it is worth mentioning.Another thing to mention, If you use AGFPro, GeoVox works great with it. Personally, I prefer using GeoVox over AGFPro's Voxel Sculpt addon (which is basically like having GeoVox built into AGFPro). It just runs a little more smoothly.. Amazing! Ten minutes in and I have made a more fantastic terrain than with any other software. Definitely a must have for game developers, or even anyone who just wants to play around and make stuff. I can already see myself and other people spending many, many hours with this!. i bought this and it worked now i cant even get passed the log in screen mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. At first I thought this might be helpful but then I realized how terrible the controls and editing usage is in it to the point that I am severely disappointed in it after using it for awhile.So I think I'll just stick to the standard engine tools in UE4 and Unity for better overall results.It's very much a pain trying to edit in here to make landscapes so you're pretty much stuck trying to play with it to get it to look just right but half the time you accidentally create circles and boxes in the landscaping making it tougher to look good while doing the editing.. Right out the gate, this is a powerful terain generation tool. Having grass and trees is nice, granted, but the way this makes terrains for you and the tools you have to build/dig and the fact you can build terrain archways, you can dig, you can basically build an endless terrain is awesome beyond measure, especially for this price.When you export out the terrain, you can bring it into any modeling program you own, whether it is a free modeling program or a paid one such as LightWave. They are constantly improving the product, so it can only get better. I recommend this to anyone who needs to make terrains for any of their purposes. Personally, I use this for making terrains for my games. The employees are very friendly and they are very supportive if you have any issues. They are diligently working on enhancements for GeoVox which I totally LOVE, I haven't seen this much effort by developers on products posted to steam that isn't a "green light" beta thing in a long time. This is a real product, live and usable. If you buy it (which I highly recommend) and have any things you wish to have added, just let them know and they can see if it is feasable to do!You simply can't beat the price for the ability of this program.NOTE: I am not a paid spokesperson, I don't work for them, I am an independent game developer and I totally love this product!5 Stars out of 5 from me on this!. Definitely not worth thee $40.00 . Got it on sale and still regret buying it . The export " Feature " is broken and is of no use . I do not recommend this " Product " .. This program is not ready to do anything avoid purchase if.1-If you want a small map with low polysevery map {even the ones with limited map size} will have minimum 600.000 polygons2- No unity export {at the moment}If you put a price tag of 37+ Euros, at least have that ready3- you can only export the terrain to objThats cool, but you will have 2.000 individual ground Obj... 200 grass...600 treesand to top that of for some reason my OBJs dont have textures so all that i have is a gray mesh [the no textures issue is maybe my fault]FBX would help, but its not ready yet.4-Program may need a more powerful system than the recommended {min requirements}5-videos look cool, but in the software you dont have that much control if you compare this to Voxel Farm 20156-I dont recomend this if you want to do movies in maya {for example}, otherwise if its for games it can work.Never in my steam life i have reviewed a product\/game, but this software frustrated me so much i just had to do it.Update *A}- Once you downloaded the app with the new update you HAVE to create a ACCOUNT and have to sign in [wich open new troubles] ...B} first if you dont sign theres no GEOVOX, no offline with new update... instead of the unity feature they add a online only app, great.2} Activation is needed, but activation is not sent to the email for confirmation and there are problem with this right now in the forums.[fixed]buy the game now and there is a possibility that you will have to wait ACTIVATION from the DEV himself... after waiting response on the forum8} New Heightmap is buggy and has many problems, also in PNG...not in .raw format9} Reloading map in the generator makes the program crash sometimes10}Loading a saved scene can sometimes cause perpetual {loading terrain} thus crashSeriously?100% unprofessional product. Honestly I only got it with the bundle. It looked pretty cool being able to form the environment and what not but it is not user friendly. The viewing controls along with the speed of looking\/ moving around is too difficult. Maybe theres some setting to fix it but I dont know. Im more stuck on the other software to put any time into this one.. This is a very promising Terrain editor for Indie game developers that has every potential to be a really great product when it gets more Editing features and . At the moment you get what you see. I don't know if Indie teams and studios will be entirely happy with this software in its current state. This software would improve immensely with their input and feedback so that it can have the features and functionality they need for their games. There is ALOT of potential from this software and from this company.At the moment it creates what you see in the images above. Its a bit like Minecraft meets Skyrim, which is great for a Skyrim fan. The software generates a world like you see in the images and you can freely roam around it and make changes to it. Here are my impressions of some of the features:The Brush Tool:This is the tool that let's you sculpt the terrain. Adding mountains or valleys to the terrain.The Brush tool is something like the Sculpt Geometry Tool of Maya that lets you push and pull on the terrain. Unlike Maya, there isn't a way to adjust the amount of "displacement", how far the terrain is pushed or pulled for every mouse-click. And it doesn't seem to have the brushes available in Axis Game Factory Voxel Add-on, but hopefully fyuture versions of GeoVox will have these types of editing features. Textures:These are very nice textures. And there's a nice selection to choose from, too. Hopefully future releases will have even more as well as the ability to import your own texture images. It's only when you get really really up-close that you might see some pixelation, and only for some textures. But at most distances except super upclose they are very good textures. I don't think there's a way to import textures at the moment. Or to change to different resolution textures. I say this only becaue texture quality in games get more and more HD, but again, look at the videos and images and you'll see these textures are very very high quality textures that would work for probably 99% of all indie game needs. Terrain:As I said at the start, this is like Minecraft meets Skyrim, so if you need a mountainous landscape then you are set with this tool. Think DayZ or any other open world wilderness. At the moment the Terrain is randomly generated from the start, giving you a fullly realized 3D world as seen in the images above. If you want to start from scratch on a terrain, and build a very specific level design, you may have to wait for future releases. This is amazing software in the way it does create these high quality Terrains with voxels. That being said, you do notice some "voxel" attributes to slopes where you see terrace upon terrace of voxels. So the terrain isn't 100% smooth. Obviously it could be made more smooth with smaller and smaller voxels, but that might just give you smaller and smaller terrraces. If the software was able to create mountains as triangles and cones with ability to adjust number of subdivisions, so it's not 100% voxel based but polygon based, that might make for different quality terrains. As it seems the Brush tool can be changed between 2 different polygons, maybe the algorithm and toolset for creating Terrain can be expanded in future releases. Trees:At the moment there are 1 Tree model, as you see in the images above. When this thing has maybe 10 different tree types, with 4-5 different models of each Tree type, that would really be what a Level Designer for an indie RPG would appreciate. With different trees to populate the terrain, that will make this 1000% better. If there was also a way to turn off Trees, and export just the Terrain, to add Trees in other software would still make this Software worth the money. Grass:Excellent. Next up would be flowers. Because who doesn't like wild flowers in their RPG game worlds.
